Osteoporosis Symposium

This full day conference targets primary care providers as well as specialists who provide osteoporosis screening and management. Short sessions from multiple disciplines (pharmacy, orthopedics, physical therapy) will improve attendees knowledge to improve screening of this underdiagnosed condition. We will provide updates on how to interpret follow up DEXA scans in determining if treatment has been successful, how to manage patients during bisphosphonate drug holiday as well as how to monitor patients with chronic renal disease safely if considering use of medications including denosumab.

1. Apply knowledge of patient selection in treatment of osteoporosis in the primary care field.
2. Identify important monitoring aspects in different treatments used in osteoporosis.
3. Assess and adapt aspects of bone health including vitamin D status, risk factors & presence of metabolic bone disease prior to elective bone surgery.
