The EMS Fellowship Didactic Series is a structured, year-long educational program designed to provide comprehensive training in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) medicine. The curriculum will run from July 2026 through June 2027 and is primarily intended to meet the educational requirements of EMS fellows. However, the series is also open to EMS physicians, emergency medicine physicians, and regional EMS clinicians to promote multidisciplinary learning and regional collaboration. The didactic curriculum covers the core domains of EMS medicine, including clinical care in the prehospital environment, medical oversight and quality improvement, EMS system design and operations, disaster and mass casualty preparedness, research and evidence-based practice, public health, and special populations. Educational sessions will incorporate case-based discussions, journal reviews, protocol and systems analysis, and lectures from faculty with expertise in EMS, emergency medicine, and related specialties. The goals of the program are to enhance participants’ knowledge of prehospital clinical care, improve understanding of EMS system operations and medical direction, and support the translation of evidence into EMS protocols and practice. By engaging both fellows and practicing clinicians, the series also aims to strengthen regional EMS collaboration and encourage continuous improvement in patient care delivered in the prehospital setting. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of current EMS practices, emerging research, and operational challenges faced in the field. The curriculum is designed to support professional development, improve clinical decision-making in the prehospital environment, and ultimately enhance patient outcomes within the EMS system.

1. Apply evidence-based principles of prehospital care to the assessment and management of critically ill and injured patients in the out-of-hospital environment.
2. Analyze EMS system operations and medical oversight practices, including protocol development, quality improvement, and performance evaluation, to improve EMS system function and patient outcomes.
3. Integrate principles of disaster preparedness, public health, and EMS research to support effective EMS medical direction, system leadership, and advancement of evidence-based prehospital care.

The MetroHealth System is accredited by the Ohio State Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received in writing no less than 20 days before the course will be refunded, less a 20% administrative fee. No refunds will be made on cancellations received after that date. Please send cancellation requests to [email protected].

The MetroHealth System reserves the right to cancel or postpone this program if necessary; in the event of cancellation, course fees will be fully refunded. We are not responsible for other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets or hotel penalties.
